RAINFOREST

Driving through the rainforest is an interesting experience.

rainforest1

As soon as you enter the forest you will be immediately surrounded by a cool, green and moist environment.  Take off those sunglasses as you will not need them.

rainforest2

Much of the forest needs a careful look to see all that is actually there.  Don't be surprised to find another car pulled off to the side with it occupants out taking pictures.

rainforest3

But others like these get to grow up to 3 and 4 feet tall.

rainforest4

It is surprising what you might see.  Some people have their homes in the rainforest.  This little guy is having lunch where their owner has fenced him.

The rainforest occupies most of the northwest end of St. Croix.  Go north from Frederiksted turn right on Route 76 (Mahogany Road) you will find the Lawaetz Museum just before heading into the forest.  When you pass the entrance to St. Croix LEAP (The Mahogany Guys) you are at this pont, definitely in the rainforest.

rainforest

The rainforest is 15 acres of privately owned land that is open to the public, except for home sites that are scattered throughout and private access roads.

Can you see it?  It is quite large but blends with the contour of the tree itself.  Termites call it home.

You just might see Tarzan come swinging by any minute. Some of these vines are not as big as your finger but others are the size of small trees.

We have found "Big Mama's" ! aka Domino Club.

Now for a cool drink and directions

Do we head back home or go on further?

A gem adjacent to the rainforest is the Lawaetz Plantation Museum and gardens. It gives you a glimpse back to the start of the 20th century.  Open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 until 4.

RELAX LIFE’S A BEACH

Northshore Beaches: Some have smooth sandy bottoms ideal for swimming, and others have rock and coral-lined entries perfect for snorkeling! Many beaches on St. Croix are continuous with other beaches having a different name.

Southside Beaches:The south shore is dotted with so many little beaches that you just happen onto, that is highly unlikely that we have found them all.

East End Beaches There are many beaches East of Christiansted on St. Croix . Some are a bit harder to get to but usually not as crowded.

West End Beaches :  St. Croix offers a large number of beaches and water activities. Try a few for a fun and memorable vacation. All of the beaches in the US Virgin Islands are accessible to the public.
