SANDY POINT BEACH
LOCATION: It is located at the very southwest end of St. Croix .
Directions: Take Rt. 66 west from the Alexander Hamilton Airport
Swimming : Mild Surf
Beach side: Sand

Water Sports Center : No

Snorkeling: None
Amenities: None, after all you are in Paradise
(It may be closed during the summer turtle nesting season, April through August.)
The 380-acre Sandy Point peninsula is a protected reserve for leatherback and other sea turtles; it is one of the most important leatherback nesting grounds in the world and hosts the largest nesting population of leatherback sea turtles under United States jurisdiction so access is restricted to weekends. The dirt access road is open Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm . Grab your camera and take pictures! You could be a "movie star". This west end beach is featured in many movies and commercials. Sandy Point Beach is the biggest and longest (3 miles), in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I'd bet it has the whitest, softest sand on St. Croix . This is a wide stretch of sand as the tree line starts much further back from the water than most other St. Croix beaches. No shade (and no umbrellas can be stuck in the sand because of the little turtle nests), so bring sunscreen . Its waters are shallow and calm, perfect for swimming. Forget about snorkeling here, as all you will see is sand. Do not go alone. The water has a drop off and gets very deep very quick although there are some sand bars to stand on. This is voted by many as # 1.
THIS WEST END BEACH IS WORTH THE EFFORT.

This St. Croix west end beach is south of the Frederiksted Pier. It is a little beach with a terrific view of Frederiksted and the pier. It is great for watching the sunset and trying to get a glimpse of the green flash. The bottom is sandy. I went out a little ways and the snorkeling was really good. On the weekends it's crowded with the locals.

TERRIFIC LITTLE SPOT
FREDERIKSTED PIER
LOCATION: It is located in Frederiksted.
Directions: Off of Rt. 63 in Frederiksted
Swimming : Mild Surf
Beach side: Sand
Food/Drinks: No
Water Sports Center : No
Accessibility: Car, taxi
Snorkeling: Yes and diving

The water is very clear and you can look down and see lots and lots of fish. Therefore, many people fish here with little results particularly after a cruise ship or military vessel has docked. They often times throw over wasted food so your crummy little worm just won't make their day. The snorkeling and diving are good at the pier, with the water being so full of fish, sponge and seahorses. This is a favorite spot for night diving. Go ahead, jump off (lots of local kids do). The pictures I have seen of the pilings are incredible. Sit on the edge of the pier, or grab a seat on one of the ocean front park benches and watch the sun go down. Seems like the sunset is just for you! The west end beach area has just been revitalized and is a very nice place to stroll. Enjoy the landscaping and listen to the ocean.

Frederiksted Beach is a short walk from Frederiksted and the pier. It is a small, but nice white sand beach. This St. Croix beach is popular for cruise ship passengers. They can tour the island and then take a refreshing swim before they must return to the ship. This is another spot for fishing in the evening and for watching the sunset. People are always trying to catch the "green flash".

There IS a lighthouse on St. Croix - at Hamm's Bluff. It has been there for over 50 years. An industrial grade and unmanned. There is nothing old style or ornate about this lighthouse. The gate is usually locked. You can see the Hamm's Bluff light from the north shore, near Cane Bay , in broad daylight. You can say you have seen the only lighthouse in the Caribbean .
NOW ISN'T THAT A BIT OF TRIVIA!

This stately Great House and its historic grounds are located along the west end of St. Croix, 1 1/2 miles north of Frederiksted on Rte. 63. Sunset Grill is located here. This St. Croix mile long beach has good snorkeling and a very nice area to swim. Take a stroll and grab a few shells. Not many beaches have shells but note Customs doesn't allow them leaving St. Croix. This is another spot for you to catch the sunset and the "green flash".

The road parallels this bay. Pull off to the side of the road and grab a hunk of beach. Good snorkeling and swimming is ok. If there are any ships in the area, they will pass by on the horizon. There are some shady spots for a lawn chair or towel. Don't forget the sunscreen! Mainly a quiet west end beach for enjoying Paradise.
GREAT VIEW!

Across from the word "Northside" (on most any map) and down the steps, is Monk's Bath . The coral here has been hollowed out by years of continuous wave action. I am told the snorkeling is excellent but the water is rocky. This gal was not in an adventurous mood because of the lovely rain shower that began when we arrived. Let me know what you think of all these West End Beaches.
DEFINITELY PRIVATE!
